Faithful Unto Death

I have reached the book of Revelation in my daily devotions now, a book of mystery and intrigue, filled with things both too horrible to imagine and things so comforting that they reveal in our hearts a universal and often misunderstood longing for home — for heaven.
A verse in chapter three caught my attention:
A verse in chapter three caught my attention:
Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about
to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and for
ten days you will have tribulation. Be faithful unto death, and I will give you
the crown of life.
-Revelation 3:10

-Revelation 3:10
Be faithful unto death.
Following World War II in the Netherlands, Resistance members were awarded the Dutch Cross of the Resistance —a medal given to individuals in recognition of the courage and valor shown in resisting the enemies of the Netherlands, and in most cases, the sacrifices made in maintaining the country's freedom and liberties. The medal is in the form of a bronze cross set upon a flaming star with an image upon its face of the Dutch Resistance slaying a dragon (Hitler and the Nazis).
The cross's limbs bear upon them the inscription- "Trouw tot in den dood".
Loyal to Death.
Be Faithful Unto Death.
Loyal and faithful are brothers, in a sense.
Loyal means: Giving or showing firm and constant support or allegiance to a person or institution.
Faithful means: Remaining loyal and steadfast.
On the reverse side of the medal is an image of a chain being torn in two, symbolizing the Dutch victory over and from German bondage- and also symbolizing the Christians' victory over death.
In terms of Revelation, what did God mean when he told John to write these words- "Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life"?
It means that no matter what we face, no matter the trials and tribulations that we may, and ultimately will, face in this life, we hold fast. We remain faithful. We remain loyal. We do not fall away because of doubt, and we do not flee when things go south.
If we remain faithful, we will receive the crown of life.
We will have victory over death.
Our chains will be broken.
