Matthew 10:27-28

Last July

Jul 08, 2025 by Addison Crissone
I have been meditating on the past year over the last few days, as it is officially July —a month that marks a significant anniversary.
Last July was spent in a busy rush of doctor's appointments, hospital stays, chemotherapy, radiation treatment, and finally, more hospital stays. And then it was over.
Like the calm, quiet that rushes in after a violent storm.
There was the before, and now the after.
Last July was so different compared to the first few July days of this year. No doctor's appointments, hospital stays, rough treatments, or therapies. Only meditations and memories. Gratitude and grief.
I know some of you walked the same road my family and I did last July. And I know that there is someone out there, perhaps reading these words right now, who is walking in the exact situation I described above this very moment.
And my friend, I would like to lead you to a verse that the Lord whispered in my heart and over my life last July. If you have your Bible handy, i prompt you to turn with me to the Old Testament book of Job- my favorite book, second to Matthew and Ruth.
Turn to chapter 12, verse 10.
In his hand is the life of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind.

Simple words, I know. But profound and powerful.
In a time of loss and grief, of death and doubt, these words become a lifeline.
A reminder that what happens to us or our loved ones is ultimately not up to us.
But our lives, and the lives of our loved ones, are in His hands, and that is enough.

You and I can do nothing in the face of cancer or an illness of any sort. We cannot heal ourselves or prevent the sickness from spreading to our loved ones.
We must pray and trust that God is in control and is ultimately the only one who can take or give life.
We only breathe because he allows us.
We only live because he desires for us to.
We can do neither of these things without him.

My friend, our lives, and the lives of our loved ones, are in His hands. And that is enough.
