Come Alive

And he said to me, "Son of man, can these bones live?"
And I answered, "O Lord God, you know."
Then he said to me, "Prhosey over these bones, and say to them,
O dry bones, hear the word of the Lord. Thus says the Lord God to these dry bones:
Behold, I will cause breath to enter you, and you shall live. And I will
lay sinews upon you, and will cause flesh to come upon you, and cover you with skin,
and put breath in you, and you shall live, and you shall know
that I am the Lord."
So I prophesied as I was commanded. And Behold, a rattling, and the bones came together, bone to its
bone. And I looked and behold, there were sinews on them, and flesh had come upon them, and skin covered them.
But there was no breath in them.
He said to me, "Prophesy to the breath; prophesy, son of man, and say to the breath,
Thus says the Lord God: come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe on these slain, that they may live.
SO I prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived and stood on their feet,
an exceedingly great army.
(Ezekiel 37:3-9)

(Ezekiel 37:3-9)
I love this passage because it is the perfect illustration of salvation; it is a picture of redemption, restoration, regeneration, and rebirth.
The name 'Son of man' that is used in this scripture is meant to symbolize the prophet Ezeikiel's separation from God, his human-ness.
It is the same name that Jesus used for Himself in the Gospels, but it is used in different terms. Instead of symbolizing a separation from God, it is used to show His nearness to mankind.
It shows His humanity.
It shows us salvation.
The prophet Ezekiel is told to prophesy to the dead and dry bones in the valley. He is commanded to speak the Word of God. And when he does, miraculous things happen.
The dead bones are restored to life.
Muscles and skin covered the once-dead bones, and they became warm fleshly beings.
But they lacked one thing.
They weren't breathing.
"Prophesy, son of man..." (v.9)
And without Jesus, we are just like these dead, dry bones; we may seem alive and well.
We may be living the most perfect, picturesque lives we could ever live- on the outside.
But on the inside, we are dead.
In truth, we are not even breathing. Like those dead bones, we aren't alive.
Within, we are dear and dry bones, we are worn and barely surviving.
But then Jesus steps in.
"Come Alive!" He calls to you and me.
He calls us up out of the ashes of our lives and breathes the breath of His grace and salvation into the dead and sinful crevices of our souls. He revives our withered and dry bones that have died in the midst of our sin, and he renews and restores the worn-out, broken, and lost bits of our hearts.
He is calling today.
Do you hear Him?
Close your and listen for His voice.
He whispers,
"Come Alive!"
