Rescue the Perishing

Sep 17, 2024 by Caitlyn Crissone
Last Wednesday marked 23 years since 9\11.
I was watching the news as they replayed those horrible, sorrowful scenes that we all watch every
year on September 11th. But this time, something caught my eye about the Twin Towers as they were on fire.
Though many never made it out, there were hundreds of firefighters going into the burning buildings to retrieve as many as possible.
"Save others by snatching them out of the fire". (Jude 1:23)
They didn't know that the building would collapse in a matter of minutes.
They didn't think they would soon perish along with those they were trying to save.
A lyric from the old hymn "Rescue the Perishing"  came to mind.

"Rescue the Perishing
Care for the dying,
Snatch them in pity from sin and the grave;
Weep o'er the erring one, lift up the fallen,
Tell them of Jesus the mighty one to save".

I was thinking about the age in which we live. The signs of the times tell us we are near the end of the world as we know it.
The Lord is coming back and there are many not ready for that day.
It reminds me of the burning Twin Towers, with thousands trapped inside, only in this case it would be millions or more. What would have been like for the firefighters to stand by and watch all those poor people burn up, knowing that saving them was their very job? The firefighters are trained not only to put out the fires but to rescue those trapped in them.
Likewise, it's our job as Christians, to warn others about the eternal doom, and how God sent His Son to save us from Hell.
So why are we not sharing the Good News with anyone who will listen?
We know the solution to sin, death, the grave, and hell, yet we keep it to ourselves.
We can't simply stand by. We have to be brave and unafraid. We are called to be bold in preaching the Good News of Christ.

Scripture:
"But the fearful, and the unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers,
and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which
is the second death."
Revelation 21:8
