The Decision

A few days ago, I was struggling with the plot of a new story- one that is already halfway done.
It is such a humbling story, with a powerful message that is challenging me to push myself a bit further than I’ve gone before.
Because of this, I was given some advice that left me discouraged.
To the point of tears.
“I’m just afraid that if you do it, you’re going to make a lot of people mad.”
I know none of you know the story I am talking about or where this advice came from, but it completely derailed my best-laid plans.
While this advice was well-intended, it made me realize my priorities. It reminded me of why I write to begin with.
And that isn’t to please people.
I write to lead people to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. That alone is my mission- my calling.
It is important, however, that we not outright anger a person when we are trying to deliver the gospel to them, else we turn them away entirely.
We should offend them, yes, because all sin is offended by the Lord Jesus Christ, but we should try our best not to anger them or be hateful in the way we treat them.
It is a fine line that few walk- myself included.
So, I have a decision to make.

Do I please people, and disobey God?
Or do I pursue this message and risk maddening some folks?

My friends, we all have this decision to make- not always related to writer's woes, but to our individual lives.
And it is one of the biggest challenges and decisions that we will ever face and make.
Will you continue to be a people-pleaser, bent on pleasing everyone you meet?
Or will you be obedient to God's call?

May we all choose wisely
