Who Am I?

Who am I?
It's the question we often ask ourselves in the midst of an identity crisis, in a big life transition, or in the moment a loved one passes away- and who we thought we were doesn't seem so familiar and relevant anymore.
Who am I- there are three words with endless, invaluable meaning and substance. For in them we find the secret, seemingly hidden self-worth and value that we long for. We find who we are.
We find our worth.
Our value.
Our being.
Our true self.
This question begs for right and true answers, so we must seek them in the right and true places.
To find out who we are, we must rightfully know who God is- and who we are to Him.
God is your creator, your maker, your guide, your shepherd, your peace, your Father. God is so many things to us- he is everything. He created everything that the sun lights upon, and our fingertips could ever touch. Therefore, he is around us, in us, and with us.
To know God is the best human achievement, said St. Augustine, but to truthfully put into words just who God is is impossible. I would soon run out of words, and you would tire of my voice before I could tell you who God is- and we still wouldn't be finished.
You see, my friend, God loves us.
He loves you and me with a sacrificial, unconditional love.
Why?
Because we are his children.
We are his daughters. His sons.
Because, despite our sins and our flaws, he claims us as His own.
That is who you are to him.
You are valuable.
You are a treasure- a reward.
Don't you believe it?
Why else would God send his one and only Son, whom he loved and valued as a father does his child, to die on a cross in exchange for you and me? Jesus swapped places with us for a time so that we might not taste the sting of death and so that we might be redeemed, restored, and redfined by His blood and the Father's love.
Who am I?
You don't have to wonder any longer.
You are the child of the King.
You are your Father's daughter.
You are your Father's son.
